With regards to Luke’s birthday, I would like you to say, How pleased, and proud I am that the intense efforts of the Initiative and others have finally forced a government inquiry into the failed investigation of Burak’s murder. Hopefully this will result in the officials being concerned being punished, and the suspect, Zielezinski being reinvestigated. None of this will bring Burak or Luke back, but will hopefully result in a conviction for the murder of Burak.

Im Hinblick auf Lukes Geburtstag möchte ich Ihnen sagen: Es macht mich froh und stolz, dass die intensiven Bemühungen der Initiative und anderer endlich eine staatliche Untersuchung der gescheiterten Ermittlungen zum Mord an Burak erzwungen haben. Hoffentlich wird dies dazu führen, dass die betroffenen Beamten bestraft werden und gegen den Verdächtigen Zielzinsky erneut ermittelt wird. Nichts davon wird Burak oder Luke zurückbringen, aber es wird hoffentlich zu einer Verurteilung für den Mord an Burak führen.

„Anmak isteyenler aydınlatmalı“.

Burak Bektaş, 4 Nisan 2012’yi 5 Nisan 2012’ye bağlayan gece Berlin-Neukölln’deki Britz hastanesinin karşısında silahlı saldırıda katledildi. Cinayet 12 yıldır aydınlatılamadı. 12 yıl sonra hala soruyoruz: Cinayetin nedeni ırkçılık mıydı? Burak’ın ailesi ve arkadaşlarıyla Burak’ın katlediliş yıldönümünü 6 Nisan, saat 15:00’te Burak’ı anmak istiyor ve hepinizi bize katılmaya davet ediyoruz.

Aile, arkadaşları ve dayanışmacılar 12 yıldır olayın aydınlatılması ve kesinlik kazanması için mücadele ediyor: „Cevaplanmamış pek çok soru. Birçok soru işareti var. Böyle bir cinayeti hak etmedik. Kimse bunu hak etmiyor. Sorumlu makamlardan oğlumun katilini istiyorum“ diyor. Burak’ın annesi Melek Bektaş.

Geçtiğimiz günlerde Berlin LKA’da aşırı sağcı suçlarla ilgili 387 dosyanın işleme konulmadığı ortaya çıktı. Şu anda iç soruşturma altında olan baş komiser aynı zamanda Burak Bektaş davasında esas cinayet soruşturmacısıydı. Melek Bektaş soruyor: „Bu komiser, devletin bir temsilcisi olarak hangi vicdanla gözlerimin içine bakıp, „Bayan Bektaş, ben sizi çok iyi anlıyorum. Biz her taşın altına bakıyoruz“ diyebilyor.

Burak’ın katledilmesi ve Neukölln’deki bir dizi aşırı sağcı suçla ilgili soruşturmaya ilişkin cevaplanmamış birçok soru, 2022’den bu yana bir Meclis Araştırma Komisyonunun konusudur. Bu Araştırma Komisyonu için uzun süredir çağrıda bulunuyoruz. Ancak şu ana kadar elde edilen sonuçlar hiç de tatmin edici değil: Yetkili makamlardan dikkat çekici sayıda tanık, önemli soruları yanıtlamaktan sistematik olarak kaçınıyor. Örneğin, ilgili olguları „hatırlayamıyorlar“ ya da ifade vermeye yetkili değiller. AfD’nin heyet üyeliği bir dayatma ve mağdurlar için bir dayatmadır.

Burak cinayeti dosyası Nisan ayı ortasından itibaren Meclis Araştırma Komisyonu tarafından ele alınacaktır. Araştırma Komisyonunu eleştirel bir gözle izleyecek ve takip edeceğiz. Lütfen Berlin Meclis Araştırma Komisyon toplantılarına katılın. Öncesinde mitinglerimize gelin ve eleştirel bir kamusal alan yaratmak için bize destek olun. „Those who want to commemorate should educate“.

Burak Bektaş was shot dead in front of the Britz hospital in Berlin-Neukölln on the night of 4 to 5 April 2012.

The crime has now been unsolved for 12 years.

After 12 years, we are still asking: Was the motive racism?

Together with Burak’s family and friends, we want to commemorate Burak on 6 April at 3 pm on the anniversary of his death and invite you all to join us.

The family, friends and supporters have been fighting for 12 years for clarification and certainty: „There are many question marks. Many unanswered questions. We didn’t deserve a murder like this. Nobody deserves this. I want my son’s murderer from the responsible authorities,“ says Melek Bektaş, Burak’s mother.

It recently became public that 387 cases of right-wing extremist offences were not processed at the LKA Berlin. The head of the police department, who is now under internal investigation, was also the lead homicide investigator in the Burak Bektaş case.

Melek Bektaş asks: „With what conscience could this commissioner, as a representative of the state, look me in the eye and say, „Mrs Bektaş, I understand you very well. We are looking under every stone?“

The many unanswered questions about the investigation into Burak’s murder and a series of right-wing extremist offences in Neukölln have been the subject of a parliamentary committee of enquiry since 2022. We have long called for this committee of enquiry.

However, the results so far have been anything but satisfactory:

A striking number of witnesses from authorities systematically avoid answering important questions. For example, they „cannot remember“ relevant facts or have not been authorised to testify.

The presence of the AfD on the panel is an imposition and a security problem for those affected.

Burak’s murder will be dealt with by the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry from mid-April.

We will critically observe and support the committee of enquiry.
